Startups in Poland: The Road to Success

In this article, we’ll walk you through how to launch a startup in Poland and successfully secure funding for your innovative idea. We’ll share our experience with applying for incubation programs, overcoming obstacles, and developing a unique product — a roofing material with special properties.

How to Begin Your Startup Journey in Poland

My name is Zhenya, and this is my colleague Daria. We’re co-founders of two startups that went through the incubation process in Poland. What began as a small idea eventually grew into a project with big potential. We chose Poland because it offers some of the most favorable conditions for startups in Central Europe.

Poland is well-known for its strong support of innovation. This makes it an ideal environment for aspiring entrepreneurs. It’s important to understand: a startup is not just a good idea — it must be a unique solution that can’t be easily copied. That was a core principle for us.

The Incubation Process for Startups in Poland

Startup incubation in Poland involves several key stages:

  1. Defining the Idea – Your solution should solve a real-world problem and offer something new.

  2. Preparing for the Program – You’ll need a clear business plan, strategy, and budget.

  3. Pitching the Idea to the Incubator – This tests both your idea and your team.

Our project involved developing eco-friendly roofing materials using recycled tires. The idea combines sustainability and practicality. But the journey was far from easy. When we arrived in Poland, we had just $700. That money was stolen from me during the first night in a hostel. I had to work as a taxi driver just to cover basic living expenses.

Choosing the Right Funding Program

There are dozens of startup funding programs in Poland, including:

  • PARP (Polish Agency for Enterprise Development)

  • Start in Poland

  • Platformy Startowe (Startup Platforms)

  • As well as incubators at universities and technology parks.

We applied to a program that suited our idea and were accepted. The key to success was presenting a clear concept, a minimum viable product (MVP), and a strong execution plan.

Protecting Your Innovation

Being innovative isn’t just about being creative — it’s also about protecting your intellectual property. We researched the market and found that no similar product existed in Europe, which allowed us to begin the patenting process.

This is crucial: research your competitors and make sure your product truly stands out. Avoiding IP conflicts will save you major trouble down the line.

Building the Team and Working in the Incubator

The incubation phase usually lasts four months, but it can be extended if needed. During this time, you’ll gain access to:

  • Workspace

  • Mentorship

  • Legal consultations

  • Opportunities to pitch to investors

We are now actively searching for team members to help scale the product. If you’re a developer, product manager, engineer, or marketer and want to work on something meaningful — reach out!
