How to Successfully Relocate to a New City in Poland

Relocating to another city in Poland can be both exciting and quite stressful. In this video, I’ll share my experience, which I gained just a week ago, and tell you how to make the moving process cheaper, faster, and less nerve-wracking. We will discuss the main aspects of relocation that will help you get organized and avoid common mistakes.

Determining the Direction for the Move

The first step to a successful move in Poland is understanding exactly where you want to relocate. You need to decide which city you are moving from and to. If you are looking for an apartment, check out our previous video where we discuss in more detail how to search for housing in Poland and whether it’s worth working with a realtor.

It’s also important to keep the timing of the move in mind.

Lease Termination Deadlines

One of the first things you should think about is terminating your current lease agreement. This task needs to be solved in advance to avoid a situation where you have already moved out of one apartment but haven’t moved into the new one yet.

For example, if you plan to start living in the new place on November 1, make sure your contract for the old apartment ends on October 31. This will make it easier to manage your time. Also, pay attention to the termination deadlines for your internet provider and other service providers, as many of them may require additional time to process the cancellation request.

Important Steps When Changing Your Address

When you’ve decided to move in Poland, don’t forget to notify all your banks and organizations you deal with about the address change. This applies to both individuals and businesses.

In some cases, you may need to be present in person, especially if you moved to a large city like Warsaw, and the nearest bank branch is not in your area.

Effective Organization of Transportation

The most challenging part of any move in Poland is transporting your belongings. Over 9 years, we’ve accumulated a lot of stuff, and we had to sell about 30% of it to ease the process. Let’s consider a few popular options for transporting your things:

Transportation Options: Car Sharing and Private Services

Among the possible solutions, you can consider the help of your friends or acquaintances who have suitable transportation. If there are none, you can use car-sharing services, especially if you need to move things in a van.

You can also turn to moving companies, but be cautious as many of them may not be very reliable. In the end, we found a private mover, which turned out to be the most cost-effective option.

Financial Aspects of Moving in Poland

The cost of transporting your belongings depends on various factors, such as distance and volume of the load. Typically, a move from one city to another within Poland can cost between 1,000 and 2,500 PLN. Shorter distances, such as from Kraków to Warsaw, may cost less. However, be sure to check the reputation of the carrier.

Summary and Key Recommendations for Moving

Moving in Poland can be both exciting and, in some ways, a complicated process. Remember, proper organization allows you to avoid many mistakes and misunderstandings. Do everything in advance, especially regarding lease terminations and organizing the transportation.

I wish you a successful move to another city in Poland! Don’t be afraid of new experiences and remember that moving is not just about relocating your things but also about starting a new chapter in your life.
